A Letter From Dr. Linda
Let me take this opportunity to introduce myself. I am Dr. Linda Miles, Co-Founder and Chief Formulator of DERMA E, but foremost I consider myself a healer. As a Doctor of Oriental Medicine and Holistic Practitioner, I am most concerned about your health and well-being. During my 30 years of experience formulating natural skin care products and my years practicing holistic healthcare, I have learned that our bodies have an amazing inherent ability to heal themselves. If we nourish ourselves with a healthy lifestyle and powerful natural products, we can restore balance to our bodies for optimal health and beautiful skin.
I firmly believe that our skin is the outward expression of our inner health. We cannot have vibrant, healthy skin without a healthy lifestyle and a healthy body. To help nourish the body and the skin, I recommend eating a balanced diet with fresh fruits and vegetables, taking an antioxidant-rich supplement, drinking approximately 8 glasses of water a day, exercising, getting a good night’s sleep and minimizing your stress.
For a healthy body and beautiful skin, it is also important that you are aware of the levels of toxins you are exposed to on a daily basis. Consuming sugar in food and beverages, over exposure to sun, second hand smoke and even stress can produce a toxic load on your body. When these toxins are produced or absorbed by the body, free radicals try to compensate. Free radicals are highly reactive atoms that damage cells in the body and contribute to the formation of fine lines and wrinkles, loss of skin tone, hyperpigmentation, and other signs of aging as well as the development of skin cancer. Inside the body, free radical damage is implicated in the development of various diseases including cancers, degenerative diseases, and inflammatory illnesses as well as the aging process itself.
Antioxidants are the body’s natural protection from harmful free radicals; they help inactivate free radicals before they can damage cells. Hundreds of antioxidants exist; some, such as Alpha Lipoic Acid, the body produces, whereas others such as vitamins E and C, we must consume. Antioxidants are often found in fruits, vegetables, and nuts. Different antioxidants function slightly differently, but they work together synergistically to keep the body and skin healthy.
Although the skin receives its nutrients from the blood and therefore does get some of the antioxidants that we consume, research shows that applying antioxidants topically is the fastest way to help support and protect your skin. Nourishing your skin with antioxidant-rich crèmes and serums can help prevent and diminish fine lines and wrinkles, soothe inflammation, even skin tone and improve texture and elasticity.
As Chief Formulator of DERMA E and a practicing Natural Health Practitioner, your health, and the health of your skin, is my top priority.
