Happy Friday ladies and gentlemen!
This week at DERMA E we wanted to take the time to talk about an issue that is very dear to us. April is Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month and to celebrate we want to raise awareness about some issues that our animals are facing and also share some easy ways to help prevent it.
Currently over 115 million animals per year are being killed in laboratory experiments worldwide. A quick and easy way to help stop animal testing is to do a little bit of research into the companies that you buy from. Another easy way to prevent animal cruelty is to shop locally at farmer’s markets. Animals from local farms are most likely living in more ethical conditions and were more likely to have been raised without growth hormones and antibiotics. Buying locally also supports small businesses, so it really is a win-win.
Animal testing is not the only pressing issue facing our animals today, neglect and abandonment are the most common forms of animal abuse in the United States. We have all seen (and promptly muted or changed the channel) those Sarah Mclachlan SPCA commercials, but the sad reality is that those commercials are true. Four to Five million animals are dying in shelters per year because the Humane Society doesn’t have the space and/or resources to care for them. There is plenty that we all can do to help these forgotten pets.
- When looking for a new pet: Adopt, Adopt, Adopt! There are so many wonderful and loving pets waiting for homes and it is always a fun trip to go and see which one speaks to your family.
- Having a pet is an amazing experience and it is so tempting to get a pet when you are not able to be there for them. So please make sure that you can provide for them financially, physically, and emotionally before you make the commitment of adopting an animal.
One more way we are acknowledging Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Month here at DERMA E is by appreciating our pets, so please take some time to enjoy the adorable furry friends of some of our lovely employees! Also we want to see the animals that are near and dear to your heart so please tag us on Instagram and #Dermae in all of your pet pictures.
