The new year can serve as a great motivator to incorporate new routines and healthier habits into your daily life. You may have a healthy meal plan or new exercise challenge in mind, but why not incorporate some positive changes in the skincare department too?

Face masking often gets overlooked in skincare since it can seem like an extra or unnecessary step. However, face masks can serve as a great treatment that targets specific skin types and skin concerns. They can also serve as an affordable way to achieve a relaxing, spa-like experience at home #selfcare.

HOW TO USE FACE MASKS

No matter what type of face mask you are using, always cleanse the face with a gentle cleanser first. Our Hydrating Gentle Cleanser with vegan Hyaluronic Acid, Chamomile and Vitamins A & E works to wash away any dirt, oil, and impurities without drying the skin. Our Acne Deep Pore Cleansing Wash with Salicylic Acid, Tea Tree Oil and Chamomile is an effective yet gentle cleanser for skin that is prone to breakouts and blemishes. Another cleanser to try is our Anti-Wrinkle Cleanser with Vitamin A, Glycolic Acid and Papaya Fruit Extract that helps to gently exfoliate and cleanse the skin for a fresh, youthful-looking complexion.

Once your skin is well cleansed, follow the usage instructions on the face mask’s packaging. For masks that need to be rinsed off, apply it after cleansing, but before the rest of your skincare routine. For masks that can be worn overnight, apply as the last step in your skincare routine. Overnight masks are often used for their moisturizing benefits and should be washed off in the AM. They can be used in place of a night moisturizer or in combination. If the skin is overly dry, try using DERMA E’s Hydrating Night Cream along with the mask.

 WHEN TO USE FACE MASKS

Face masks are often regarded as a skincare treat, reserved for special occasions. While masking every day is a bit excessive and can lead to skin irritation, you may want to consider using a face mask up to two times a week, depending on the type of face mask and your skin’s needs. Masking can be done in the morning to brighten & prep the skin for makeup application. Masking in the evening can help remove oil and dirt from the pores and help hydrate and firm the skin.
