It’s the New Year, and while you might not be clamoring to the gym, you can benefit your skin with a very easy detox mask right from home. Lately, I’ve been experimenting in my kitchen with new face masks. Unfortunately, from all the rich foods I’ve been eating over the Holidays, I’ve had some unwelcome breakouts. Not to fear though, because I’ve crafted a ‘can’t miss’ mask that will have your skin rejoicing in praise as soon as you wash it off. I have experimented with many a mask in my days, but this one might earn my top ranking. ImageHelpful Ingredients As I was rummaging around in my pantry, I pulled out a few things from beauty school that I remember being helpful with inflammation and acne; honey, a natural antibacterial and soothing ingredient, bentonite clay, for its deep cleansing and anti-inflammatory benefits, and baking soda, which can be used to open up pores before extractions in a spa setting. Recipe Put one tablespoon of baking soda and one tablespoon of clay into a small bowl and while stirring, very slowly add water. For a deeper detoxification, the mask should be a thick paste, and for more sensitive skin, it should have a slightly runny consistency. Lastly, add one tablespoon of honey and mix all the ingredients together. With a clean makeup brush (you can also use a small basting brush or a cheese cloth), apply a layer all over the face, avoiding the eye area. If desired, apply a second layer over any trouble spots. As the mask dries, you will feel a slight pulsing and tingling sensation. This is normal, and as long as it doesn’t burn, it’s an indication that the ingredients are doing their job to detox your skin. After 15 minutes, or when the mask has become tight, rinse off with warm water, making sure to thoroughly remove all traces of the mask. You should immediately notice a reduction in inflammation and a healthier-looking appearance. I have only used this mask twice but I already know it will be my ‘go-to’ mask whenever my skin fails to impress. Try this out for yourself and let me know how it works for you.
